Relational schemata, social goals and social behavior

Psykologia 37:84-92. Vammala ISSN 0355-1067

The review discusses the role of relational schemata in explaining social behavior. Studies from experimental laboratory studies (Baldwin et al. 1993, 1996) assessing relational schemata and attachment style in young adults are briefly reviewed, and a model of children's family-relational schemata influencing victimization and aggression in the child's peer group, recently proposed by Perry et al. (2001) is introduced. Finally, the possible mediating effect of other cognitions proposed in the Crick and Dodge (1994) model, such as social goals, in the link between relational schemata and social behavior is discussed.
