Mindfulness as a criterion for the management of daily life

Psykologia 43:95&endash;108. Vammala ISSN 0355-1067.

Improvement of the management of daily life has become a women's issue in the Nordic and Southern European countries. The aim of our article is to define the central concepts of the management of daily life and to apply them in an action research in the context of the first Nordic experiment on time planning in Helsinki and Turku. Mindfulness or psychological presence turns out to be both an indicator of and a tool for the management of daily life. We also model the concept of mindfulness as a meaningful experience and a transactive process that takes place between environmental affordances and individual self-regulation in which intention, perception and attitude are intertwined. Methods comprise contextual analysis, thematic interviews with content analysis and a variety of enabling methods for enhancing the development work.

Key words: mindfulness, presence; time planning, management of daily life, flow.
