The daily diary approach in family psychology research
Psykologia 39:234-243. Vammala ISSN 0355-1067.
In this review we discuss the role of the so-called new paradigm for studying family processes, that is, the daily diary approach introduced by Larson and Almeida (1999). This approach is based on repeated daily or experience-sampling data to examine daily within-person and within-family variations in emotional experience. The focus is on the transmission of emotions or closely related phenomena between family members. This review places the new paradigm in the context of other approaches to examine the transmission of experiences in families, discusses research methodology and reviews the major findings obtained in this kind of research.
