Is therapeutic alliance an outcome factor in addiction treatment?
Psykologia 38:426-433. Vammala ISSN 0355-1067.
The clients' and the therapists' alliance has often been neglected as an outcome factor in addiction research. However, it may be more important than treatment programs and techniques.
The purpose of this article is to review literature and discuss research on therapeutic alliance and addiction treatment outcomes. According to research findings, therapeutic alliance is an important outcome factor in addiction treatment. I discuss this from a research and clinical point of view.
Key words: Addiction treatment, therapeutic alliance, outcome research.
