An applied viewpoint to the trajectory analysis method

The main aim of this article is to describe a semiparametric mixture model suitable for the analysis of developmental trajectories (Nagin, 1999). This method has been extensively applied to the study of the development of antisocial behavior (e.g., Brody et al., 2003). A short introduction of this method is first presented and then an example based on the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development is shown. Throughout the article, the perspective of the model in application is emphasized, rather than its statistical background. The readers are given many references to obtain further information about this method of analysis.
